EcoCem® PLC is a portland-limestone cement with equivalent performance to Type GU cement but with a smaller environmental footprint.
EcoCem® PLC is made using the same components as Type GU cement, but it is processed differently and contains as much as 10% more limestone. By increasing the amount of limestone and decreasing the amount of clinker, Lehigh Cement has reduced the energy required to produce EcoCem® PLC as well as associated emissions. Using innovative technology, Lehigh Hanson has developed EcoCem® PLC as a product which can be substituted directly for normal Type GU portland cement in general use applications.
EcoCem® PLC meets the specifications for Type GUL portland-limestone cement in CSA A3000 and CSA A23.1. Type GUL portland cement is referenced in the National Building Code of Canada and is approved for use in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. EcoCem® PLC is not currently recommended for use in environments subjected to sulphate exposure.
Portland-limestone cement products have been well established in Europe for decades and Lehigh Hanson, together with their parent company Heidelberg Cement, is proud to lead the introduction of this sustainable product to North America.
